November is my favorite month of the year. It is the month of my birth, it is a month that falls within my favorite season- Fall/Autumn and it is the month of my favorite holiday- THANKSGIVING! My favorite part of Thanksgiving is dessert and my favorite Thanksgiving dessert is Sweet Potato Pie.
My grandmother baked several sweet potato pies every Thanksgiving. The smell of butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg filled not just the kitchen but every room. Those pies baking were the scent of Thanksgiving for me and in many ways still are, which is probably why I make one every year. I know for a lot of people this holiday means pumpkin pie but for me, Thanksgiving will always mean sweet potato pie. I love it not only for the delicious taste and smell but also for all of the lovely memories it conjures up. The warm feeling of time in the kitchen with my maternal grandmother is a favorite. I have never made this pie and not thought of her. ❤️
If you haven’t ever tried sweet potato pie, I strongly encourage you to try one this holiday season. If you are already a fan, try my version of this southern holiday favorite!
Yield: 1 deep dish or 2 regular pie crusts
After an hour the pie should be set in the middle. Remove it from the oven and allow it to cool. Serve plain or with whipped cream, that’s how I like it!
